Cold Is Not Measurable
Did you know there is no measurement for cold? Only a measurement of heat or lack thereof. Our concept of cold just refers to a lack of heat. There are a couple of ways to avoid it.
To Stay Warm Get Near Heat
To Stay Warm Generate Body Heat
In Your Absence
If cold and hot go hand in hand then cold and darkness are two sides of the same hand. Just as cold is only the absence of heat, so too is darkness only the absence of light.
Nearly every time you find light in nature there is heat. With very few exceptions, light generates heat and darkness enables coldness.
It is alarming how easy it is for Christians’ hearts to lose heat and go cold in the darkness of this world. A blindness of heart alienates us from the life of God. John tells us that Jesus was the Light of the world.
“In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” John 1:4–5
Jesus is that endless source of heat and light we need to avoid hypothermia in our fallen world.
Staying Warm
As Christians we need to stay warm in a dark and cold world absent of Light.
David said:
“For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness” 2 Samuel 22:29 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalms 119:105 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalms 119:11
We talked about the ability for a body to generate heat before, and I believe David discovered the way to generate light from the inside. Drawing close to an unlimited source of heat isn’t just for physical warmth. David figured out the way to guard his heart from going cold: he placed the light on the inside. His words will fuel a fire down deep in a Christian’s soul.
It is cold outside, but the Word of God gives us everything we need to light a fire down deep inside. Open the scriptures up and feel the flame blaze within you today.
“And they said one to another, Did not our HEARTS BURN within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?” Luke 24:32
